Pula Film Festival

Short Pula

DAJEKUCA

Short Pula programme is of a competitive nature and a public call is published for it. The call is open for all Croatian short feature films and Croatian minority productions shorter than forty (40) minutes.

Bothe categories are defined by the following rules:

Croatian Films (Films that have received support at the HAVC – Croatian Audiovisual Centre Festival, films of Croatian production or participation of more than 50% Croatian film artists)

Croatian minority production (films in which the share of the Croatian producer (including the support from HAVC, producer’s private investment, television investments, sales of television rights, distribution agreements, indirect investments, etc.) is at least 10% of the total budget of the film and which qualifies as official co-productions under the provisions of the European Convention and / or the applicable bilateral co-production agreements which the Republic of Croatia signed with other countries).

A man wakes up very early, he needs air. A radio is waiting to connect him to his world like always, but not today. The voice of a reporter brings him and his partner to a world they fear. Syria is screaming out of its heart the need of change and both reacts their own way. A small dog is angry but patiently waits for the right moment to get satisfied. The short film Life Is Fair is a social fable from Croatian life. The protagonist Ivan Croat (his last name is by no means accidental) is on the way home from the night shift. He has just collected a salary that’s insufficient to support his family; his wife who doesn’t have a job and their three children. A chance meeting with a strawberry vendor at the market will propel him to do something that will make his family’s life harder, but will also bring back a taste of happiness that they had not felt in a long time.

The film is the story about a girl who keeps waiting for her boyfriend to meet her. She prepares surprises, dinners and birthday parties for him but he never shows up and leaves messages full of excuses. Since that is the only way we see him, we cannot read his feelings and they are left to her. Her feelings change through the course of events and time, from understanding to being offended to the decision to go on through life which is boiled down to the simple hope for his coming.

Escape is adaptation of the comic book written by internationally known comics artist Igor Kordey. Escape is one of the eight short stories from his comic book collection The Stars (Zvijezde). The film follows a girl named Dubravka, who to escape from the reality, is spending her days shut in her room reading science fiction books, dreaming about aliens and some better world. One evening, while reading one of her books she recognizes herself in the main character, and messages which she reads from the book understands as a call to finally encounter with aliens.

AGIM (35) delivers a pizza to a family house in the sububrbs. It was ordered by a group of young men who are watching their football team losing a match on the TV. Hrvoje Pukšec

PUKSEC2

Hrvoje Pukšec lives and works in Zagreb where he was born in 1976. He has studied law and journalism and from 2000 he has worked as a film critic and a film themed specialised journalist. Over the years he has written for numerous Croatian cultural newspapers and internet portals (Hrvatsko slovo, Vijenac, Zarez, Libra Libera, Zapis, Kulturpunkt, Film.hr, Filmski.net, Javno, Playboy, Gloss) and in recent years has worked as a journalist, screenwriter and presenter of the TV shows Posebni dodaci, Pola ure kulture, Kokice i Trikultura Hrvatske televizije.

He has worked as editor of the HAVC (Croatian audiovisual centre) production catalogues (2008 and 2009), as the Public Relation Executive for the Pula Film Festival and Casting Manager for the production house Kabinet.

He has been occasional member of the HAVC international promotion team (Cannes 2010 and 2011, Berlin 2011 and 2012) and PR for the film “Obrana i zaštita” (“A stranger”) directed by Bobo Jelčić. Since 2014 he has been president of the Pula Film Festival Arts Council. He obtained his first screenwriting experience while being part of the screenwriting team of the TV series “Dobre namjere” (2007) and has written the screenplay for the experimental film “A.D.A.M.” directed by Vladislav Knežević and the documentary “Soba 60” directed by Andrej Korovljev. He has been a member of the Croatian Association of Film Critics since 2004 where he currently holds the position of International Communication Coordinator and is a member of the Association Board. He also served on the juries of the 25 FPS, Dani hrvatskog filma (Croatian Film Days), Cottbus, Motovun and Portorož film festivals.

Tanja Miličić

Tanja Miličić was born on December 14th 1974 in Pula, where she completed her elementary and secondary school education (Pula Gymnasium, department for culture and art). She was one of the first City Youth Workshop members participating in realization of numerous cultural projects. She moved to Great Britain in 1993 where she finished London Lambeth College for film, video and photography, and she graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in video, photography and visual arts with first-class honours in 2002. During her student days she was a volunteer and she worked for many non-governmental organizations gaining valuable and important life and organizational experiences.

During her studies she worked on many short-length feature and documentary films, and her graduation film Patchwork (2003) was screened on many European film festivals. The film was awarded for Best Director and Best Newcomer at the 12th Days of Croatian Film, as well as awarded the Oktavijan Award for Best Documentary film granted by the Croatian Film Critics Association. Tanja currently works on her second feature film.

She returned to Pula in 2003 when she commenced collaborating with the Pula Film Festival Public Institution, and in 2007 she became the Pula Film Festival full-time employee as a festival producer. Since 2008 Tanja holds the position of the Valli Cinema executive manager. Andrea Zlatar, Minster of Culture of the Republic of Croatia appointed Tanja as the Festival Artistic Board member.

She was a jury member of the international organization CICAE (The International Confederation of Art Cinemas), Europa Cinemas and ECFA (European Children's Film Association) at the Film Festival in Venice, Berlin, Sarajevo, Vilnius and Kristiansand. She completed training for art cinema managers under the guidance of The International Confederation of Art Cinemas at the Film Festival in Venice in 2009. She was selected as European Children's Film Association Board member in February 2014. She is a member of The City of Pula Cultural Council for Film, Performing and Drama and Theatre Arts, and of The Istria County Council for Music, Theatre Arts and Film. She also participated in creating The City of Pula and Istria County Cultural Strategies.
